Elder Street Bus Station is the main bus station in Edinburgh, it was formerly known as St Andrews Bus Station. It is a 5 minute walk from the city centre. The entrances to the bus station are located on Elder street and St Andrews Square. Buses leave from here to destinations in Scotland, such as Glasgow and other national destinations in England and Wales. Most buses do not take credit cards so make sure you have enough cash. The fair to Glasgow is approximately 15 pounds return.
If you book online, you will be issued with an e-ticket, which you need to print out and take with you, or an m-ticket, which is sent to your mobile phone. Otherwise you can get at ticket at the bus station.
There are a number of long distance and local buses running from Elder street bus station but one of the most popular is the discount bus line Megabus. Megabus offer very low fares from 1 GBP to those who book in advance over the Internet.
